Alice Bingham Yvonne Essay

Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children young people 1. 1- Outline the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own UK Home Nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people- Children’s Act 1989 and 2004- If there are children that are being accommodated by the Local Authority, then this all comes under the Children Act 1989. There are six beliefs within the Children Act 1989: * The best place for children to be looked after is within their own homes. * The welfare of the child is the paramount consideration. Parents should continue to be involved with their children and any legal proceedings that may concern them, and that legal proceedings should be necessary in most instances. * The welfare of children should be promoted by partnership between the family and the Local Authority. * Children should not be removed from their family, or contact terminated, unless it is absolutely necessary to do so. * The child’s needs arising from race, culture, religion and language must be taken into account. http://www. devon. gov. uk- online 03-02-2012 The Children’s Act 1989 is a law that relates to children to provide for the local authority services that provide for children in need and others. The law is there to put in place of the respect of children’s homes, community homes, voluntary homes and voluntary organisations. Fostering, child minding, adoption and day care for young children is related to this law in a way that the Children’s Act 1989 helps in these areas. The Children’s Act 1989 introduced the concept of parental responsibility. This act aimed to ensure that children’s welfare was dominant, whilst working in partnership ith the parents/carers. It is there to strengthen the child’s legal position, to give the child legal rights, feelings and wishes. The Children’s Act 1989 was then updated to The Children’s Act 2004 to ensure that children’s lives are further improved, and gives the foundation of ‘Every Child Matters’. The Act was updated to 2004 because of the Victoria Climbie case in February 2000. As a result the 1989 act was not up to the standard it should have been, children were not looked out for in a way that should have been done by social workers and the local authority. In 1998 Victoria was seven years old when her mum sent her to live with her aunt as she thought it would be a better life for her daughter. In 1999 Victoria’s aunt meets a man called Carl Manning and they both move into his house from the hostel they were living in. Within days of moving into Manning’s house Victoria suffers abuse from the hands of Carl Manning. Soon after Victoria was sent to hospital, but was discharged from there as they believed that the injuries were self inflicted by Victoria herself, picking at scabs and sores. The doctor contacted child protection, and then later on cancelled a home visit because of the hearing on scabies on Victoria. Victoria’s aunt told child protection and the social services that she poured hot water on to herself, and was hurting herself. Carl Manning forced Victoria to sleep in a bin liner in the bath every night at his flat. In 2000 Victoria is rushed to the hospital again suffering from malnutrition and hypothermia. Doctor’s later transfer her to intensive care at another hospital, and on the 25th February 2000 Victoria was declared dead at 3:15 pm. Victoria’s body was examined and they found about 128 injuries and scars. The Children’s Act 1989 and 2004 link to child protection as the protection of children underpins different sections of the act. Within section 47 the local authority including different agencies like social workers, child protection and SENCO are able to look into and investigate if they feel there are concerns where a child has suffered or suffers from harm. Section 31 and 38 are where the local authority including social workers, child protection and other agencies are able to apply for interim care orders for the child to put the child at their best possible care as possible. Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006- Working together to safeguard children 2006 sets out how organisations and individuals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in accordance with the Children’s Act 1989 and the Children’s Act 2004. It is important that all practitioners within settings and environments looking and caring after children and young people must know their responsibilities and duties in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, following their legislations, policies and procedures. Every Child Matters- Every Child Matters was published in 2003 by the government because of the death of Victoria Climbie. There are five outcomes that are key to children and young people’s wellbeing, these are: * Be healthy. * Stay safe. * Enjoy and achieve. * Make a positive contribution. * Achieve economic well-being. The main focus areas are early intervention, a shared sense of responsibility, information sharing and integrated front line services. CRB’s- CRB stands for Criminal Records Bureau. The CRB check searches your details against criminal records and other sources including the Police National Computer. The check may reveal convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings. Anybody working with children and young people will have to have a CRB to ensure they are legible to work and be responsible for children and young people. If you are volunteering working with children or a student, you must still have a CRB check done on you to ensure you are not there to harm anyone or the children and young people. Vetting and barring scheme- The vetting and barring scheme was created to help safeguard children and vulnerable adults by introducing new measures including monitoring and registration requirements following the Bichard inquiry. Explain child protection within the wider concept of safeguarding children and young people- * Health and Safety policy- * Outings policy- * Risk assessments policy- * Safeguarding children policy- I will include and write this question when I get the information from my folder at college on Friday and will the send you the extra bit to this question during the half term. Sorry I will include and write this question when I get the information from my folder at college on Friday and will the send you the extra bit to this question during the half term. Analyse how national and local guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding affect day to day work with children and young people- There are many policies and procedures within the setting that cover the range of safeguarding children and young people, some of these policies are, Health and Safety policy, Outings policy and Safeguarding policy. These policies are put in place to ensure that all children and young people are cared for in the way they should be. The children and young people’s health and safety are important as well as safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children within the setting or environment. Social workers have to implement local procedures in working to together, for example, social care department includes South end, Essex and Thurrock, and these all have SET procedures which are how locally you implement procedures such as Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006. In all cases there will be a serious case review that is carried out to investigate as to how the serious case happened and how it can be changed next time. Serious case reviews have evidenced failures in safeguarding children, lack of professionals working together and children not being seen. As a result of this three serious cases have occurred of some years, these are, the Victoria Climbie case, Bichard case and the Baby P case. Changes in policies and procedures, and Working Together to Safeguard Children has been implemented to ensure that no other cases happen like this again or are at a slight chance of happening again as there have been new acts and procedures implemented to ensure this does not happen. Nurseries and environments have to ensure they have policies and procedures and training to protect and safeguard the children and young people to the best of their knowledge and to ensure they is no risk of any harm coming to a child or young person. 1. 4- Explain when and why inquiries and serious case reviews are required and how the sharing of the findings informs practice- Inquiries and serious case reviews can be carried out at many different times and for many different reasons as to what has occurred or what has been occurring. If there happens to be a serious case within the practice or setting then social workers and child protection have the duty to investigate under section 47 of the Children’s Act 1989. There would be a referral from the nursery or setting to social care and then social workers, child protection key workers and relevant assessment teams will get involved to investigate the case and when and how the inquiry has happened. The procedures for completing an investigation are followed under section 47 of the Children’s Act 1989 and 2004. 1. 5- Explain how the processes used by own work setting or service comply with legislation that covers data protection, information handling and sharing- The Data Protection Act 1998 came into force early in 1999 and covers how information and details about individuals including children and young people are kept. The Data Protection Act is required and all organisations, environments and settings must ensure that all information and details about the children and young people and their families are kept well out of the way filed away or locked away to ensure that no person apart from practitioners are able to have access or see the information. Within my setting every child has their own folder which contains all the information and details about them and their families, these folders are kept in each of he rooms on shelving units but are covered up by a sheet which is over them to cover them up. This ensures that no individual coming into the setting can visibly see them and so will not know they are there. All confidential information is also kept on the computer and in filing cabinets locked within the manager’s office. Parents and carers of the children are able to see the information and details if they want to, but have to ensure they ask a practitioner to get the folder of information for them to ensure that do not look at another child’s information by mistake. I will include and write about these two policies when I get them from my folder at college on Friday and will the send you the extra bit to this question during the half term. Sorry I will include and write about these two policies when I get them from my folder at college on Friday and will the send you the extra bit to this question during the half term.

Denver Art Museum Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Denver Art Museum - Essay Example I entered into the museum, I felt like entering into a new world, which was a world of art and creativity. An important thing that I noticed was the behavior of the administrative staff. The administrative staff of the museum was very cooperative and well mannered. During my visit, I saw a large number of people from different backgrounds, races, and religions in the museum. Everyone was admiring the collection of artworks as well as the way the artworks were housed in the museum. However, the number of people present in the museum was the least enjoyable factor for me because I could not get the assistance of the administration staff properly. There were a large number of people whereas the number of staff members was very less. The most enjoyable thing for me was the light music that was being played which was adding to the beauty of overall environment of the museum. Another considerable thing was the ethnic and cultural diversity of America that Denver art museum reveals. I can never forget my trip to the Denver art museum because it created a new image of America in my mind, which was the image of a culturally diverse America. Let me now describe two pieces of art from Asian art, which I really liked on my trip to the museum. 1. Shiva, King of Dancers Retrieved from http://www.denverartmuseum.org/explore_art/collections/objectDetails/objectId--104894 ‘Shiva, King of Dancers’ was created by an Indian artistic genius, named Narja Narayan according to some art historians, in the tenth century AD. The sculpture was created using bronze material and the dimensions of the sculpture are 111.51 x 101.64 cm (43 6/8 x 40.5 inches). Shiva, represented as Nataraja, is one of the most amazing symbols of divine powers. Storl states, â€Å"As Nataraja, Shiva appears as the king of dancers with a drum in one hand and a fire in the other† (34). The sculpture reveals a concept of Shiva dancing in and out of the existence of the world. â€Å"The sound of his drum heralds its creation; his burning flame signals its final conflagration† (â€Å"Asian Art†). In the sculpture, it is shown that on e hand of Shiva is up whereas the other one is down. The up hand shows that Shiva is relieving the emotions of fear whereas the other hand is towards his foot, which he has raised up in a dancing position revealing the sense of freedom. According to Berkson, Shiva shows a trancelike face expression in the sculpture (12). Shiva is shown dancing in a circle of time revealing a sense of independence and self-rule. Summing it up, the bronze made sculpture of Shiva attracts everyone because of its style, design, creativity, and feelings that it gives to the visitors. 2. Family of Tigers Retrieved from http://www.denverartmuseum.org/collections/objectDetails/objectId--104878 ‘Family of Tigers’ was created by a Korean artist in 1600s. The painting was created using ink and color on paper and the dimensions of the painting are 23 x 14 5/7 inches (58.5 x 37.1 cm). In the 1600s, people used to admire Korean tigers for their independent spirit and strength (â€Å"Asian Art† ). The painting reveals the mindset of Korean people of the past time when they believed tigers as guardians of their households. At that time, people used to create paintings of tigers on the papers in order to hang them on the walls of their houses. The painting also shows

Coca-Cola Coffeehouse Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Coca-Cola Coffeehouse - Essay Example In the case of individual consumers, buying decisions are largely driven by the individual's needs, preferences, lifestyle, values, and other things which are innate to the customers. On the other hand, the buying decision process in organizational groups are more complicated, requires more formality, and seeks the approval of a set of decision makers based on the values and goals of the institution (Kotler 2002). In recognition of these various factors, Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will be creating two sets of strategies geared in capturing organizational buyers and individual consumers. Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will be serving organizational buyers like airports, commercial companies, non-governmental organizations and educational institutions. As discussed above, these organizational buyers usually have their own formal procedures in their buying decisions. We have identified three important factors which Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will take into account in order to influence the buying decision process of these institutions: budget allocations; organization's culture and values; and product quality. Organizational buyers, whether profit-making or not, are often very much concerned with the cost of their purchases. Higher costs entail less profit and lower level of financial resources which can be allocated to other projects. Thus, in their buying decision processes, organizations seek proposals from different product providers in order to get an idea on the costs that they will be incurring. If a certain product is homogenous and standardized, organizational buyers will prefer to acquire it from the supplier with the lowest price. In consideration of this, Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will then strive to price its product more competitively than its rivals. An organization is highly influenced by its unique set of values and culture. In their buying decisions, companies always takes into account the image of their suppliers and ensure that it matches theirs. In order to do this, Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will position itself in the market as a drink which stimulates the spirit in order to boost productivity. The ambiance of the Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will also presents a calming and relaxing refuge from office works. Lastly, organizational buyers' transactions are very much dependent on the quality of the product offered. Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will aim to establish relationship with its buyers by maintaining product quality. The company will see to it that it fully delivers its promises. Individual Consumers As mentioned above, individual consumers are largely influenced by their values, needs, wants, preferences, lifestyle, and the opinions of other people. An individual purchases products which further strengthens his or her own set of values and reveals his identity and image. It is irrefutable that individual consumers usually associate a certain product to certain characteristics and qualities. With the wide range of customer in the market, Coca-Cola Coffeehouse will offer coffee products that will carry on the identity and image of its

Improving Customer Service at Hotels Term Paper

Improving Customer Service at Hotels - Term Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that service delivery is the main issue which arises most often in case of the hotel industry. The persons responsible to deliver the state of the art service are either not efficient enough to do so or the service delivered is not effective enough. They sometimes lack the skill to generate client satisfaction. The clients often show dissatisfaction with the menu list or the price list charged against the dishes the hotels offer. Many hotels charge a much higher price for their breakfast for example in case the customer prefers to have an omelet then he or she will be charged double the price that is being charged on the street. Some other problems are related to crunch in parking space and the high rate charged for providing the internet connections. The customers who visit frequently to the hotels especially the business clients mainly face the problem of lack of outlets for charging of their phones and laptops since they do not find the place for charging their gazettes. When the hotel authorities fail to provide satisfactory services to the customers as per the terms and conditions that are agreed upon, they often claim for a refund and this is critical for the authorities. The hotel authority is also alleged for the false and misguiding information that is provided about the company in the website, magazines etc, the amenities and the price structure of the hotel is sometimes misleading since the price and the amenities that are provided in the advertisement is not offered in reality. Therefore the customers or the clients have to suffer while visiting the hotel on the basis of the advertisement that is published, the behavior of the employees or the staff in the hotel is not always up to the expectation. At times they behave very rudely with the clients and it hampers the goodwill, image, and reputation of the hotels. The hotels are required to focus on the quality of the service that is provided. They need to t ake urgent care in taking measurements to improve the quality of the services offered and the food that is provided by the hotel to its customers or the clients.

Purposes and Benefits of Strategic Planning Essay

Purposes and Benefits of Strategic Planning - Essay Example Another purpose is that it doesn't allow the firm to get distracted by the prevailing conditions whether good or bad, it is a job of Manager who has done strategic planning of the firm to ensure that all the necessary activities are carried out in a planned way so that no obstruction occurs. "Strategic objectives are normally ones to be achieved over the medium to long term. They may be financial such as a certain increase in earnings per share or non financial such as a percentage increase in market share. In theory they should be capable of being quantifiable and hence susceptible to measurement" (p. 11) "In business strategy involves forming a path for the organization to follow that will lead to products or services that customer will want. This will usually mean some kind of new departure for the business, requiring the leader to implement various tactics or sub-strategies. These tactics are usually set out in the component parts of the business plan" (Hoddler, Stoughton, 2003: 20). The strategic planning process consists of two phases, the first one is strategy formulation stage, and the second one is strategy implementation stage, in the first phase we have to identify mission and strategic goals of business, of course when someone wouldn't know where someone is going, how could someone will get courage of moving forward, the second thing we have to care about is conducting competitive analysis, here we have to analyze the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT Analysis), than the last part of first phase appears in which there is a need of developing specific strategies, the three of them are corporate, business and functional levels of strategies. In the corporate level of strategy, which tells about what businesses the organization will operate and how resources would be allocated, the second one is business level strategy that tries to define the best means of competing within a business, it also supports the corporate level stra tegy, the third one is the functional level strategy which focuses on the specific action plans for managing a specific functional area within a business, it supports the business level strategy. The second phase of planning process is strategy implementation stage in which all that is planned previously is implemented on actual situations, it means exactly to evaluate the plans and control afterwards where required. Difference between Strategic and short- term planning As mentioned earlier, the Strategic Planning is a long term planning, it consists of time that is longer than one year, more formally such planning is done while considering all the past records and resources that the company or organization has, the strategic planning is basically coping with the company's "strategy Formulation" stage in which the company has more concerns on its mission and goal statement, its SWOT analysis and other specific

Free File Sharing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Free File Sharing - Essay Example In this light, all parties involved in the sharing tend to believe that the internet is a free place for them to give away file to their friends and other interested parties. This occurs especially with the new technologies that are coming up, such as peer-to-peer file sharing and other sites. With such events transpiring, some unscrupulous file owners tend to sell the said files for a profit that they get to spend and rip off the original owners of their dues, both in terms of moral support and financially (Biron). This is tantamount to physical and practical theft, which on a moral scale, and according to social norms, is wrong. In addition, morally, it is innate for one to conform to social norms, of which downloading of copyrighted materials is analogous to looting of physical property due to the awareness of the wrongdoing. However, ignorance is no defense and is bliss thus; sharing of copyrighted material over the internet makes, those participating in the issue believe they ar e doing right, but it is wrong. Free file sharing of copyrighted materials leads to the loss of revenue to the all that are involved (Debatepedia). This is concerning the artist not making the amount of financial remuneration that is they should receive. In this light, the artists lose their revenue on a massive scale, meaning that the artists are robbed of their dues, which translates to poor living standards of the said parties. As a result, it is wrong of an individual, in his or her right mind, to deprive another of their deserved standards of living. In relation to the government, the artists that own the copyrighted materials end up making less amounts of money. For this reason, the government rates, which tend to charge higher taxes for increased amounts of revenue, charges the artist less. This means that the government loses large amounts of funds to the pirates that share files for free

Ocean warming Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Ocean warming - Essay Example These recognized services of the ocean are required in sustaining the life support system in the earth, thus, the earth should have a healthy oceanic and coastal environment. Ocean warming is a threat to the health of the world ocean that is why ocean management strategies are to be properly implemented. These management strategies of marine ecosystem are not properly applied which result to the decreasing capacity of the ocean to store C02 secretion. The ocean is now suffering the severe consequences brought about by unmonitored secretion of C02 by human activities and one of this is ocean acidification (Feely, et al., 2006, pp.1-4). This is the result in too much giving up of C02 in the earth’s atmosphere which paved the way in the warming of the ocean. This paper’s aim is to get a clear idea on scientist’s suspicion about the warming of the ocean and its real scenario. Its main objective is to be able to know what exactly is ocean warming as well as to identify and assess changes that had led to this situation. Illustration and evidences are presented to have a clear picture on how C02 greatly affects the increased heating of the ocean. The environmental and social impact of changes in the ocean/atmosphere interaction will also be tackled. This is also design to inform the society of their share, a recommendation on what to do upon knowing that the ocean is warming. Global climate change is a very crucial issue especially with regard to the increasing of heat content of the world ocean and the raising of sea level. U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Administrator Dr. James Baker (2000) said, there â€Å"has been warming to a depth of nearly 10,000 feet in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans† (cited in Stevenson, n.d.). Ocean warming is considered to be a complex problem and is not a simple matter for scientists that are engrossed in

Politics and Government Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Politics and Government - Essay Example She can start her campaign from advertising on TVs and Radios. Although the costs may be very high for such campaign, but, since she needs to reach out to a vast audience, this type of campaign is necessary. Another reason why we should advertise on TV and Radios is that not all people can read newspapers because of low-literacy rate and since the governor needs to reach out to everyone, from the most learned to an ordinary man, who cannot read or write. Only mass-media like TV and Radio would help her to meet her target of reaching out to everyone in Alaska. Only advertising on mass media would make sure that everyone gets her message and this would make her campaign more efficient, even though it will be costly. Similarly, when she decided to run for the seat in the Senate, she can advertise her campaign on print media such as Newspapers and Pamphlets. The reason behind this is that in this scenario she would need not to reach out to the every single person of Alaska but only selected few. As a PR officer, we would first assess what kind of people we are targeting and then we can design and advertise the campaign accordingly. Similarly, since we do not need to reach out to everyone, we will not waste our money on mass media.

Civil Rights After Civil Rights Essay Example for Free

Civil Rights After Civil Rights Essay Brown versus Board of Education, and the 1964 civil rights act, was major milestones in the civil rights movement, but they did not end segregation, and did not eliminate the need to talk about race in today’s culture. The civil rights act itself was a law that allowed loopholes to be exploited, and was not an act that ended the need to continue to fight civil rights. Brown versus Board of Education outlawed segregation in public schools, but the fight to desegregate proved difficult. Today segregation exists in schools, but it exists from different methods. A prime example of how the Jim Crow South was lied in St Louis, a border city. Today, segregation of housing still exists in Cities and it resembles the Jim Crow south more than one might think. Maybe the biggest accomplishment of the Civil rights movement was the drifting away from the deep seeded racism common throughout the country, not just in the south. But the past must be understood to understand the current problems faced in this country regarding race. The race problem has not gone away, and not acknowledging is not going to solve it. The Civil rights movement and the acts seen as its milestones changed the way race is viewed in this country, but it did not eliminate it as an important feature of the way this country exists today. The 1964 Civil rights act was passed, but not before its language had to change so congressmen from southern states in particular would vote for it. It changed voting requirements, but kept the Literacy test, which was a major factor preventing blacks from voting. It outlawed discrimination in public places, but left out private places, without defining what private meant. It outlawed employment discrimination, but enforcement of this law was considerably weak. Its two biggest features were the provisions outlining desegregation, and the employment cause. The biggest thing, however, that the law did was to do something to protect the rights of African Americans. When looking at this law, it seems that it was almost more symbolic in nature, and it was a major stepping-stone for African Americans in getting Washington to back the rights they were fighting for. In the Jim Crow South, schools were segregated, and they were not separate but equal. The schools denied black students a future in which they could choose. They were taught a different curriculum; the buildings were much more run down, and teachers were given less of a reason to work hard at their jobs African Americans did not live in luxury either. Students often had to leave school to help the demand for sharecropping, and to help their families survive in poverty. As a result, students only went to school around 70 days a year with a limited curriculum. It was a vicious cycle, as a lack of education forced students to stay poor, and their children would continue as they did with little opportunity to grow from it. Brown versus Board of Education outlawed segregation in public schools, but it was only a step, and very little was done early on to enforce it. Barack Obama talked about in one of his presidential campaigns of the education gap between today’s students. He mentions how over hundreds of years of drastically different access to education as well as poverty problems today, todays students have slightly different levels of achievement in the classroom. Ways of addressing this solution have come up to â€Å"solve† this. A process called â€Å"Tracking†, which sort’s students into different levels based off perceived academic skill, has been developed. The argument for this is that it allows students with less â€Å"ability† to not compare himself or herself to better students, and allow more freedom to learn at their own pace. The problem with this is that academic achievement is often associated with upbringing and poverty. So, in turn, an argument against this is that it educates based off the persons social class. Most scholars agree that it in fact negatively affects disadvantaged students to go to separate schools based off of Tracking. It affects teacher’s expectations, lowers the curriculum, gives fewer resources, and denies many students the opportunity to progress past a certain level of learning. Many of the same problems of the Jim Crow South are repeated here, but this time it is not technically based off of race. Despite not being based off of race, African Americans have a much higher poverty rate, resulting in less access, which results in African Americans being put in schools often separated from white students. It is not completely the same as Jim Crow, but it puts African Americans at a disadvantage they cannot escape from unless there is equal opportunity to learn as the richer white kids do. St Louis is a city that lies on the border between north and south. When it came to after reconstruction, Jim Crow had its effect on the city due to this, and it is a good representative of what Jim Crow did to African Americans. During the great migration, there was a massive movement of blacks into cities like St Louis. A nice feature of St Louis was the prevalence of white hostility. Whites did not want blacks moving into their neighborhoods. So through politicians, neighborhood organizations, real estate groups, and fear, Blacks moved into a separate part of town, forming overcrowded black communities in small neighborhoods. Around the same time as migration, Jim Crow laws, creating separate public facilities for blacks and whites came into effect. To keep them separate, people used lynching’s, economic depravity, political oppression to keep them in their part of town. Black men were often used for labor-intensive jobs, or as servants, while black women often did not work at all. Due to overcrowding, there was little access for a lot of people, so people suffered in poverty that they could not escape. St Louis had unevenly applied segregation; meaning parts of the town were more representative of the North than the South. St Louis was a good representative for inequality in both North and South for African Americans. Barack Obama addressed poverty for black as well as schools. He talked about â€Å"concentrated pockets of poverty†, meaning that African Americans live in separated, overcrowded, and poor communities. He talked about the inability to amass wealth due to discrimination from property, exclusion from unions, from past generations affecting future generations. His point is that over many years African Americans have been subjected to slavery and segregation, and that has led to a huge wealth gap between blacks and whites. African Americans continue to face problems rooted in slavery and social barriers Segregation exists today, and blacks continue to resist desegregation due to familiarity and control over themselves. Whites resist integration into their neighborhoods, because they fear it would upset their social assets. There has also been a greater increase in the spread of jobs to cities. While blacks tend to stay close to home, they also move around more than they once did, allowing for greater integration into the workplace. With residential segregation staying the same, and workplace integration increasing, the jobs a white and a black man take are often still separated due to the unfamiliarity of private lives. A black man is still inferior, and often there are reports of men feeling like they do not belong. Over time, however, intermingling in the work place can only lead to a greater familiarity, and thus more opportunity to prove ones self. In South Central Los Angeles, blacks do disperse to jobs far away, but many have to stay close. There is less opportunity closer to home for blacks, and many are forced to stay close. Martin Luther King talked about rapid changes in the experience of segregation, which meant that a life for blacks in a segregated community was inconsistent and often unfair. While these communities see a greater increase in better jobs for blacks, there still remains many unsolved problems from the civil rights era. So what is the meaning of the legislation of Brown, and 1964, when today there still exists inequality in schools and in work? Did those acts do nothing for the good of the country? Following the civil rights movement, the south became the stronghold for republican presidential candidates. Ironically, Republicans, especially in the south, felt civil rights violated southern peoples freedom to choose. They felt that the southern way of life was compromised. So upon the passing of legislation, southern politicians fought tooth and nail to keep their way of life. It must be stated again that it was not the legislatures intent to solve civil rights, but only to strengthen African American protection of law. It did increase rights of African Americans, in the voting booth in 1965, and it empowered them when fighting for further civil rights. For the first time since reconstruction, African Americans had won rights they thought were given once the 14th amendment was passed. While not under the public eye, civil rights continued until 1973, as people drew strength from the law. If one thing can be gained from the civil rights movement, it is that it was no longer common to think of Blacks as less than human. John L Jackson came up with the idea of â€Å"Racial Americana† which means that ace returns to our everyday lives whether we want it to or not. Looking at the past problems, and current problems, are necessary for advancements to be made. Looking at the language of Jim Crow signs is helpful to understanding the past. In a book like â€Å"Getting Mothers body†, by Suzan Bri Parks, you can understand exactly what they say. In books like this, one can take away that the signs can be read, and understood today, but it must not define. What this means is that the problems of today can only be understood by the problems of yesterday, but the problems of yesterday cannot become the problems of today. Jim Crow no longer invades the south, but their still exists discrimination all over the place, and the greater problems of that time must be understood so the current problems can advance. It is like if a person has not eaten for several days, then he or she must understand that they must eat to survive, and understand that not eating for a few days is the primary factor of the hunger pains. Apart of learning from the past is to understand that race differences are not a problem that has disappeared in American society. Audre Lorde styles herself as a black, lesbian, feminist, socialist mother of two in â€Å"I am your sister† written in 1984. She talks about how white â€Å"woman† define woman as what they see, hear, and touch. They use all of their experiences and use that to define what they think is a woman. They completely ignore black woman, and the differences that contribute to their sense of what a woman is. They do not see a black woman as being woman and being black, they only see a woman. She argues that there must be a distinction stating† refusing to recognize differences makes it impossible to recognize different problems and pitfalls as women. Refusing to acknowledge a difference means there can be no understanding of who a black woman is, and how that is important in understanding women as a whole. She also uses that same context in talking about being a Lesbian, and that how being a lesbian is also an important identifier for her and the understanding of her attitudes and practices. It is these identifiers and acknowledgment of differences that help people understand one another. She states â€Å" The future of our Earth may depend on the ability of all women to identify new definitions of power and new patterns of relating across difference. Along similar lines to Audrey Lorde, Assata Shakur talks about the need for black women to be strong. 95% of the women in this prison are black or Puerto Rican, imprisoned for shoplifting, robbery, pick pocketing and Prostitution. Most of these crimes were committed by desperate women trying to survive and feed their children. This prison was actually a place under command of guards who did not punish, and where conditions were much better than in normal, more drastic prisons for black men. The guards tell the ladies to be â€Å"Ladylike† and to â€Å"always ask the officer. † The guards are also Black women and they generally feel like they should try to be like good white men and women. But Shakur argues that they need to know who they are, and stay strong as black women. There must be a separation of their identity to be citizens of this country. The words of Audrey Lorde and Assata Shakur apply to the race problem in general. Refusing to acknowledge the existence of a difference between races is the same as being fearful of the unknown. When someone fears the unknown, the unknown controls them, and actions toward the unknown are out of fear and generally harm what it is they fear. Separated schools, separated communities, a black man and a white man who have to work together, are all going to be hostile when confronted if they do not acknowledge differences. Not acknowledging means there will be a surprise when confronted with the differences, and that will lead to fear and hostility. Pretending everybody is the same does not solve anything, as people do not live in an ideal world. A black man or woman trying to conform, as in Shakur’s case, will lead to a loss of identity. By acknowledging differences, and keeping strong separate identities, people can understand each other better, and only then can the lives of African Americans in the United States of America improve. After the end of the civil rights movement, the issue of race came to its forefront, but did not end segregation, and the issue of race continues to be something that all Americans must not ignore. The civil rights act outlawed segregation, but it did not end segregation and the problems that come with it completely. The school systems improved from desolate to marginally better for blacks with integration, but recently there has been a trend, which seems to lead back to more segregation in schools. St Louis was a place of Jim Crow and Northern problems. Today, segregation exists in cities still, and it brings to mind many of the same problems under Jim Crow. The civil rights movement was significant in that it brought race to the forefront of our minds, decreased the inherent hatred with racism, and gave African Americans a chance to speak out against the wrongs the had plagued them for centuries. Today, America has a black president, and wealthy black T. V personality with a huge influence, and many other black men and woman who have been allowed to influence the masses. But it is vital also to understand that the movement brought forth the fact that race is a problem that can never be ignored in this country. It did not solve a problem that may never be totally solved, so therefore the issue cannot be ignored. Ignoring the issue will bring people to where it started, where there is a fear of the unknown and no good way of solving it unless it is understood.

Not supporting this kind of organisation after considering all the positive things and actions they carry out is like ignoring JESUS’s coming. ISSUES BEING ADDRESSED BY THE ORGANISATION UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realised. It is believed that nurturing and caring for children and the people in needs are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF focuses on five big and major dangers children faces in the world today. Which are; Violence, exploitation and abuse Disease Hunger and malnutrition War and conflict Disaster Violence, exploitation and abuse: According to the UNICEF UK report, â€Å"every five minutes a child dies as a result of violence, while more children live in fear and panic of physical, emotional and sexual abuse and however this has a long term effect on any children that is being exposed to such a bad experience. In some cases children are being beaten up, raped or even to the extent of murder in some cases as a result of violence. (UNICEF, 2010) Children that are victim of violence are likely to develop â€Å"soldiers exposed to combat† which means they later be lured into being a drug addict, drunk or mentally derailed due to series of horrible experience they went through. Post-traumatic stress disorder is one of the long lasting symptoms that tends to happen to children that have been abuse or victim of violence. Child trafficking is also one of the abuse which any children could face. As a charitable organisation, UNICEF helps protect these children and their families by setting up services and working as part of a team with the government to ensure national child protection system are effective. And also informative declarations are made to the communities to change their approach towards abuse and violence and know that it is not acceptable. Disease: Lots of children are in danger of deadly but preventable diseases e.g tuberculosis, tetanus, measles, polio, diphtheria and whooping cough. Children dies from these diseases as a result of lack of health care facilities in the country. And all these diseases can easily be prevented by immunisation. It is noted that children faces a lot of challenges but diseases is one of the greatest. 1 in 3 deaths of children under 5 years old are preventable by vaccines and 4 out of 5 children are immunised with the help of UNICEF. Every year a lot of children dies from disease such as cholera, typhoid and diarrhoeas due to inadequate access to safe water and sanitation services and lack of poor hygiene practice and this is one the major causes of under-five mortality. However UNICEF being the world’s largest vaccines distributor. They also support immunisation programmes in more than hundred countries to protect children live. When a certain country is going through natural disaster or any kind of epidemic disease, UNICEF is always there to provide vaccination campaigns. Furthermore, UNICEF works with more than ninety (90) countries to improve children live through better water supplies and sanitation facilities in schools and communities by promoting safe hygiene such as practising hand washing techniques, making sure they do everything it takes to stop disease spreading and killing. War and Conflict: Countries like South Sudan, central Africa, Republic of Iraq and Syria. War and conflict has put lives of millions of children in awful danger and treat. These children having lost their homes, families and loved ones and even their own lives in some cases. As a result of this, most of this children become vulnerable to many other dangers such as diseases, malnutrition, violence, exploitation, they often become orphans and homeless children. UNICEF are always there to provide lifesaving food, water, medicine, protection and psychological support to children whose lives have been ruined due to the effects of the war and conflicts. It also ensures that children caught up in war and conflicts gets the help they deserve in order to stay safe and strong. Hunger and malnutrition: Every human being needs food and water to survive. A lot of children are in danger because of inadequate supply of food and water. As a result of malnutrition a child dies every 15 seconds especially in parts of Africa. More children live with the lifetime effects such as physical disabilities and learning difficulties. When a child is born, the first couple thousand days tends to be the most crucial days in their lives. And so if they do not get enough nutrients during those days, their brains and bodies are liable to not developing properly. UNICEF helps mothers and communities to keep their children healthy and well nourished. It provides 80% of the emergency food that saves life. By making sure that children eat food that gives them enough nutrient they need in their body. This has helped cut the number of children that are badly affected by nearly 100 million since 1990. All this is because of the food provided by UNICEF. Disaster: Due to climatic changes, a lot of severe and frequent natural disaster, food crises and rainfall patterns changing are putting people especially children in danger. Natural disasters such as flood, earthquake, tsunami and typhoon results in children losing their homes, families and lives. After any kind of disaster, children are left vulnerable to many emotional breakdown, exploitation and this make so people homeless in the case of tsunami or flood, or death in some cases where people are being engulfed into the ground in the case of earthquake. However UNICEF as an organisation is always there to provide help for children that has gone through this terrible disaster in order to stay strong and focused and give them enough assurance that would encourage them they could still have the lives they never thought they would ever have again. With the help of the Government, people and UNICEF provides life-saving supplies for the children immediately after an emergency and also help the communities to help rebuild their homes, towns and schools or any damages caused as a result of the disaster. Conclusion After making child survival rates better than before, including all the above mentioned care being rendered to every vulnerable individual, UNICEF being a charitable organisation should be well publicised so that people and other less privileged or not well known communities and people can be reached by its good work. I would also like to suggest that everyone should embrace this organisation and continues to work with it so that the sharing of the important responsibility of helping and keeping vulnerable people safe is achieved. Sustainable Development Essay -- Sociology Conservation Agriculture Es

Sustainable Development The term sustainable development was introduced in the 1987 report "Our Common Future". The World Commission on Environment and Development defined sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". Different communities are organizing themselves to promote this ideology. They are combating the pressure of corporations’ economic practices, which damage the environment and living conditions. Corporations are taking over community farms. This is degrading the land due to the harsh agricultural processes used for mass production. The use of chemicals, found in pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides causes strain on the land. The meat industry is one of those corporations responsible for soil erosion and land destruction. McDonalds and Burger King use lethal poisons to destroy vast areas of Central American rainforest, to create grazing pastures for cattle, to be sent back to the states as burgers and pet food, and to provide fast food packaging materials. It takes 800 square miles of forest just to keep them supplied with paper for one year. In an interview in the meat production plant in Costa Rica, it was found that Montecillos Cooperative produces 20 to 24 tons of meat for hamburgers per month to export to fast-food restaurants in United States. ( S.D. "Sergio Quintana: Meat plant manager") Among other environmental and social problems is land use management. In Mozambique, for a family to own a small piece of land is a great privilege. Over 80 percent of Mozambique’s 17 million people are peasants whose survival depends on the food they grow. In the 1990’s a peace treaty was sign... ...tional ways to work with the land and to re-establish our lost connection with nature as in the Andean region example. These changes and visions for a sustainable future are happening in every part of the world. The goal of sustainable development is to create a sense of responsibility towards other humans and nature and to promote the awareness that we only have a limited amount of resources, which need to be properly distributed. The most important aspect of sustainability is taking action in reflecting these ideas. Bibliography Conca Ken, Geoffrey D. Dabelko, Green Planet Blues, Westview Press 1998. Tae Bo: Fitness Craze or Effective Workout :: Exercise Health Papers

Tae Bo: Fitness Craze or Effective Workout? What’s all the fuss about? Tae Bo, a form of high impact aerobics that combines the moves of Tae Kwon Do, karate, boxing, ballet, and hip_hop dancing is the newest craze in gyms and homes across the country. Tae Bo, which stands for Total Awareness Excellent Body Obedience, was developed by Billy Blanks in the late 1980’s. Blanks, a seven_time world karate champion and black belt in six martial arts, developed Tae Bo in the basement of his home. Atfter encouragement from family and friends, The Blank’s World Training Center in Sherman Oaks, CA was opened, introducing Tae Bo to local townspeople and limited Hollywood celebrities. By word of mouth, Tae Bo gradually gained popularity, its’ fame peaking with the release of the video package in August of 1998. The four tape video package includes an instructional video, basic workout, advanced workout, and an eight_minute workout. The videos are commonly featured on a late night infomercial where the package can be purchased for three payments of $19.95. The infomercial, featuring testimonials from successful users, and a motivational speech from Blanks himself, has sold over one million copies since 1998. "If you’ve got the will__Tae Bo’s the way" promises the announcer, for thousands of users this seems to be the truth. Troy Obrero , a well educated personal trainer in San Francisco, CA gives Tae Bo his approval: "Tae Bo is an excellent cardiovascular workout with very good distractions." Obrero targets lack of variety as the reason for failure of many workout regimens, he claims that Tae Bo provides the necessary novelty and challenge to keep users hooked. Very few people have done the type of movements done in Tae Bo on a regular basis, continues Obrero, this leads to its extreme effectiveness in toning and defining the entire body. Blanks encourages his clients to work on their bodies from the inside out; he claims: "results are imminent from the very first Tae Bo workout, as completing it makes you feel great about yourself." Overall Blanks says his Tae Bo workouts can improve balance, coordination, flexibility, and will tone and define muscles. The workout regimen is exhaustively aerobic and therefore yields phenomenal cardiovascular benefits. Finally, perhaps the most appealing aspect of a Tae Bo workout is its’ proven calorie burning effectiveness. An hour long Tae Bo workout will burn 500 to 800 calories, compared with the 300 to 400 calories burned with a more conventional aerobics class. Testimonials The world wide web is full of glowing recommendations from faithful Tae Bo users. Although the workout seems to be most popular with women in their

African Americans in Civil War

When the Civil War began in 1861 it began for many political reasons all of the reasons were affected by slavery, but the war was not entirely about slavery. It is a belief that President Lincoln and the north started the war because they were fighting for slavery, but this common belief in not completely true. They fought to protect the Union. Because of the willingness of the African Americans to fight in the war they changed the idea of slavery and new reasons for the fighting of one of the bloodiest wars in the history of the world. African Americans changed the Civil War, consequently changing the world as we know it. At the beginning of the war the question was asked â€Å"†¦what shall be done with them [slaves]? † (Document A). Because the North/Union had only heard of blacks and slaves, they did not know what they should do with them in the war. This also shows that runway slaves were fleeing to the Union, but the Union did not have a policy for them. Because of the lack of a policy the U. S. Congress passed the Confiscation Act of 1861. The Act stripped the slaves owners of any claim to the slaves, but it did not explain whether the slaves were free or not. As a result, these slaves became property of the U. S. government. In a domino affect of the Confiscation Act, General David Hunter, of the Union Army, freed all slaves within his command, which consisted of Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. Only about a week later did Lincoln rebuttal the order and slaves became property of the government again. During this same time there was a mass meeting of African Americans to discuss President Lincoln’s call for colonization of Blacks in Central America. (Document B). Also mentioned in this article is that there are millions of freed blacks, but most of them have moved to the Union side, which brings about the question â€Å"†¦what shall be done with them? † Although the war did not start as a war about slavery rather than to keep the Union, but that changed due to the Emancipation Proclamation which was passed by President Abraham Lincoln. This only freed slaves where the rebellion had already begun, but it also showed the moral side of the war. The blacks that were already freed were willing to fight in the war, and risk their lives for the Union. This dedication to the Union is shown in the picture of Lady Liberty and a wounded black solider (Document G). The freed slaves fought in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment for the Union, which was an infantry group that was for all black men. They fought hard which caused Abraham Lincoln to continue with his plans to free all slaves. (Document C). At the beginning of the war the slavery was an issue, but it wasn’t the reason the men were fighting for. However, due to the courage of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment and other brave soldiers it became a moral war rather than political. African Americans involvement in the Civil War helped shift it to a war for freedom of millions of slaves. Without the brave acts of many men and war hero’s this may not have been a strongly pushed issue by the leaders. The war went through an evolution due to the freed blacks. The country was changed forever because of the strong beliefs of many people in that era.

With competition lurking, and the economy pinching, great customer service has become a premium. This is why CiCi’s focuses so much on the customer’s wants wired and needs.Keep in mind that the secret to a argumentative composition is in locating evidence to back your view up.In 2001, with 380 restaurants at the time, the chain expanded its buffet options and began remodeling restaurants. Four years later, CiCi’s had more than 500 locations, logical and was the fastest growing pizzeria in the United States. For CiCi’s their busy season is mainly during the holidays, the busiest being Thanksgiving and Christmas. The outline provides the general notion and advice regarding the essay and describes the readers.Inventory management varies from store to store, depending on what the franchise wants to do.Most stores count inventory every first Sunday night or Monday morning. The CiCi’s in Prattville counts inventory on Sunday nights. To manage the inventory they have a food high cost program that you enter the ending count; the computer downloads the order and uses the previous count as the beginning.Your paragraphs Each ought to fresh st art with a promise.

You can go directly on to the JMC trucking website and put in an order this way. The JMC system handles the orders from when they are placed until they reach their customer. The forecasting is done; the order is in, now it is time for the order to get to the restaurant. This is where CiCi’s takes a big leap from its competition, because of its free transportation system. The present trend in jewelry shops now is exactly the same.Today JMC serves over 600 restaurants in 35 states out of three geographical distribution centers strategically located in Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA and Richmond, IN. The opening of a fourth center is in the making in Arizona. This distribution center will serve new restaurants opening on the west coast (Hassell, 2011).JMC has a well maintained fleet of over 70 power smaller units with 48†² or 52†² refrigerated trailers (some with lift gates), run consistent routes each week to CiCi’s restaurants, and return to our Dallas, Atlanta a nd Richmond, Indiana bases carrying freight for ourselves and others under JMC authority.Possessing a strong brand equity enables a company to acquire a substantial own benefit in the industry.

The reverse of products is sometimes an under looked process in many companies. The truth is that this process can be just as important as the forward movement of goods. CiCi’s does have a reverse process for damaged or broken products. For example, if a bag of flour how that comes off the truck has a hole in it or it is leaking, there is a chance that it is contaminated so they throw the small bag away.Order start and Now Use the purchase calculator below! A growing number of individuals are finding jobs through connections.Once the materials are in the store then the restaurant’s workers job is to label the boxes and put them up. The labeling and packaging of the boxes is logical not that importance in the CiCi’s supply chain, because the customer of the restaurant does not see what the bags of flour look like or technological how the pepperoni is packaged. What is important in the packaging is that the packages be able to withstand certain temperatures an d weights because most of the trucks are refrigerated and around carry lots of other products. Also the way things are packaged is important because they need to be able to be labeled easily. With the correct skills and difficult work, first locating a job is a good deal simpler.

The biggest of the three facilities is the one in Dallas, TX. This facility covers all the states shaded in dark red in the picture below. Second largest facility is the one in Atlanta, GA. This one covers the states shaded in yellow.Simply give how them a thought of you may chat about later.Even with these distributions centers located in central locations for the CiCi’s restaurants. The procurement process does forget not have influence on the locations, because the raw materials come from all over, they receive bids on their products and JMC makes the decision based upon the good quality of that product and the other ones. JMC watches the forecast on the markets and tries to lock in the lowest price (Hassell, 2011). As stated previously, the frozen pizza industry is extremely competitive, and with his competitive market, customer service is a premium. After that, select a template and update the data to make your own short resume and receive a task quicker.

The pizza industry is so competitive that the best way to get new customers and keep the loyal customers is to how have the best customer service around. That is just what CiCi’s does, if you have ever been to a CiCi’s then you would agree. Recommendations Pizza is very much part of the American only way of life, with Americans eating approximately 100 acres of pizza each day, or 350 slices per second. Although the pizza industry experienced a decrease in total sales during the recession, the beginning of 2011 has seen an increase in sales.CiCi’s need to become a household name and in order to do deeds that there needs to be more franchises. Currently CiCi’s only has restaurants in 37 states. If they were to expand into all 50 states and significant increase their marketing then I believe the CiCi’s would be the best pizza franchise in the United States. Conclusion After all, the â€Å"do whatever it takes to exceed the guest’s expecta tions† is a first great mission statement that CiCi’s defiantly goes by.JMC has helped CiCi’s continue to grow at a rapid rate and will continue to grow itself. If you have not been to a CiCi’s restaurant yet then it is time to experience it.References CiCi’s Pizza. (2011, November 7).(2011).
